Right on the bottom of Wittenberg road.

I forget where.

Down in the Bearsville Flats.

What about Starsky?

A coupla free signs from the front wall of the Pioneer Market in Fire Island. Kismet indeed.

On golden pond. Road.

A carton of Marlboro lights and a case of pomegranate Schnapps goes out to previously insulting, but loyal nonetheless, reader Sarane O'C, who snapped this shot on Pond Rd. in Woodstock, NY, USA. It's just our little way of saying "thanks". Sorry about the chintzy gifts. Chintz!!! Get it!! Hardee-har-har-har.

More French!

First it's the title of the last post, sent in from Ontario, Canada, eh, and now this, from the mean streets of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where a former Crip gang member has apparently decided to trade in his blue bandana for a life filled with lovingly bi-lingual typography. Bravo! A wise move, son. A wise move.

A lifetime supply of sensible shoes goes out to Professor nurse Sarah W.M. as our little way of saying "thanks" for sending in this poignant pic. Here's her note on it:

Here's one for your collection. This one is interesting. On the curb outside this house almost daily a new batch of give aways shows up. Often they are laid out in a tableau and the bush next to the box is decorated with a variety of flip flops

An ex-gang banger with an artistic flair. Warms the heart.

Trucs gratuits

From the chiquita who put the lust in wanderlust come these 3 images from the land of the great white flag with a red leaf in it.

Above is a rag tag assortment of objets snapped by the beloved banana in Sand Lake, Ontario.
Below are two fine photos from Dwight, Ontario. (My grandpa's name was Dwight.)

A carton of Export 'A' goes out to our smokin' awesome friend Claire M. as our little way of saying "thanks, hoser." Okay, eh? Super.

Down under ware

Ha! I said "underwear"!! (Sorry. I've got a 7 year old boy.)

Anyway, props to Aussie reader Brad J. for sending in this really excellent photo of clean (presumably) clothes hanging in a tree to dry. And a gas griddle. With a free sign in front of it all. A case of VB goes out to him all the way down there in Maitland, NSW, as our little way of saying "thanks."

Sit on it and rotate

From beautiful Rensselaer, NY, the town that's impossible to spell, comes this stroller. Fine condition, lightly used.

And from Josh G. of NYC and Woodstock, this couch. Less fine and more used. A free fill-up at the gas pump goes out to Josh G. as our little way of saying "thanks" for sending this in.

Correction

The shot above was somehow left out of the Rhinebeck/Red Hook post, and the shot below was somehow left out of the Daisy M. post. So sorry for any confusion or inconvenience this might have caused.

Daisy

One of our favorite photogs of all time snapped this swell shot of a computer desk top which is supposedly very heavy. Now, as it turns out, we actually have no reason whatsoever to believe that the sign writer is lying to us, so please accept our apologies for our earlier use of the word "supposedly." We certainly didn't mean to cast aspersions on the unknown scribe.

A carton of Metamucil goes out to Daisy M. as our little way of saying thanks for the shot.

Puttin' the K in Brooklyn

Spreading the word from money makin' Manhattan to the borough of Mars Blackmon and Walt Whitman. Special thanks to loyal reader and NYC journeyer, Jenny K. for this pic. A carton of PyGanic bedbug dust goes out to JK as our little way of saying "thanks."

Free tent

It's not something you take camping, it's something you use for advertising, and it's not actually called a tent, it's called an A-frame. Check it. Whatever you call it, props to our favorite submitter, Kimmie C. A carton of Coleman lanterns is on its way to you, Kim C., as our humble way of saying "thanks."

A nice blue box of free with an orange lid

From Paula B. over Connecticut way, comes this super fab shot of the mystery box of free. What do you suppose is inside? The best answer gets an all expenses paid trip to Jamaica.

For Paula, as our little way of saying "thanks", we're sending off a carton of Samoas.

#2, free signs in the movies. Kinda.

On the set of a video shoot, and what do you think I see? A free sign. This counts, right?

Road side busking?

Super neighbor Val C. sends in these pics of what must certainly be an invisible magician doing his vanishing act by the side of the road. We hope she left him a few shekels for the effort. A case of Acme Vanishing Cream goes out to Val C. as our little way of saying " ."

And from my very road in lovely Lake Hill, NY.

Xmas season starts earlier every year

Thanks to loyal reader A-Grrr for sending in this snap documenting the tragic commercialization of a religious holiday. Kinda brings to mind that Robert Browning poem, whatever it's called. A case of Fresca goes out to contributor A-Grrr as our little way of saying "thanks!"

Woodstock, NY

It's a music town. No matter that the eponymous festival was actually held way the heck over in Bethel. Not here. Bethel is not a music town. Woodstock is. Reader and music lover Staci S. sent in this pic from (look at the fine print) a shop called Sorella, in Woodstock, whose return policy appears to be for store credit only, which raises an interesting question. Do they have any other free stuff? In case the music is no good?

A case of Olympia beer goes out to fab fun reader and all around bitchin' gal Staci S. as our little way of saying "thanks."

Hi-ho Trumansburg

Reader Claire M. sent in these three fab pics and writes: "From Trumansburg, New York. And yes, I took the clown painting." Well played, Claire M. A case of mehron's best Clown White goes out to you as our little way of saying "thanks."

July 4th smorgasbord

Courtesy of loyal reader and free signs booster, April T. A carton of Parliament Menthol goes out to April T. as our little way of saying "thanks." Don't smoke 'em all at once!!

Just a hint of free

It's in there. Look closely. A free sign that's been left out in the rain. All warped up but still gets its point across. Go free!

Alice R.M. in the lead

The annual independence day weekend "free for all" is in full swing and we have an early leader. One Alice R.M., of Lake Hill, NY who snapped these 3 swell pics with her handy dandy iPhone. A case of Apple stock goes out to Alice R.M. as our little way of saying "thanks."

Shoulda coulda woulda

Our other car is a Mini Cooper. That's what I was driving when I saw this screen door. We need a screen door.

I suppose I coulda strapped it to the roof or set it up in the back seat. Or maybe I could go back for it today with the truck. But I don't think I will.

Goodbye forever, free screen door. We hardly knew ye.

A case of free

Thanks to loyal reader Norm M. for sending in this clearly-too-lazy-to-roll-down-the-rainy-car-window-photo of a really nice free sign. A case of Casarsa Pinot Grigio goes out to our lazy pal Norm as our little way of saying: really?

And for the best "really" ever, please click here.

Free makes me happy

The free-tastic duo of the ebullient Kimmie C. and the perky Jonathan P. send in this pic that says it all: "free smiley face". Oh yeah. It put a smile on our face.

A case of Snapple, made from the best stuff on earth, goes out to Kimmie C. and Jonathan P. as out little way of saying "thanks." Hope you snagged some of that free glassware in which to sip your Snapple.

Another in our "Same sign different stuff" series

Found in front of Greta's spiffy house.

The first see through free sign!

Thanks to all-around awesome chick Alice R.M. for snapping this inspired pic from the dark depths of Zena-Highwoods Rd. A ream of top-shelf tracing paper goes out to Alice as our little way of saying thanks.

Up the creek without a paddle?

Newly loyal reader Paula B. sent in these pics from the bowels of Connecticut. (Ha! lol, jk, Ct. does NOT have bowels.)

If you came for the hammock, you're outta luck.

A case of Bartles & Jaymes Fuzzy Navel Wine Coolers goes out to PB as our little way of saying "gracias".

Saturday, June 4, 2011

Reader Paula B. sends in this short story about a little boy who's growing up and a mom who's finally letting go of the trappings of his youth. Sweet bird. A couple of bonsai trees are on their way to Paula as our little way of expressing our feelings of gratitude.

Sunday, May 29, 2011

The cone, the rock and the T-bird.

Those are the things that are not free. The table is yours for the taking. Thanks to loyal reader Kimmie C. for sending this in. A case of Busch Light goes out to her as our little way of saying thanks.

Do you think they make this for a Mini?

I didn't have time to try it on. And I was driving the other car anyway.

Can't pass up a good deal

We got to this box just in the nick o' time. Some woman came and rapidly took nearly everything, it was ridiculous, a veritable feeding frenzy of free. In fact, you know what, let's just coin a term right here on the spot, call it a "freeding frenzy" and call it a day. Happy free season!

A confluence of interests

Historical markers and free signs. Oh my.

Almost as good as chocolate and peanut butter.
